The trick is to keep things in the air, or at least to catch them before they hit the ground.  Then the world steps nearer, coming within touching distance perhaps.  At this range, a hand shoots up into the sky convinced that it can catch an aeroplane in flight as easily as a floating thistledown seed.  And drawn close by the game there is a chance, melancholy in its brevity, to see that the sky really is blue.
